1954

Fender, the American musical instrument manufacturer, launches the Stratocaster, the iconic guitar of rock 'n' roll. The Nobel prize for literature goes to Ernest Miller Hemingway.

And the three brothers Arturo, Luciano and Maggiorino Codutti establish the company that bears their name.

1962

Sophia Loren wins the Oscar as best actress for La Ciociara. John Glenn is the first American to orbit the Earth. The first movie of the 007 franchise premieres in the UK: License To Kill.

The Michelangelo, the first transatlantic cruise ship with Codutti furniture, is launched. The company too is ready to set sail towards the challenges of the future: its history has just started.

1963

The Raffaello is launched: the company adopts an exclusive approach to production by specializing in interior design. The company starts working wood, glass and leather, which, alongside metal, will be the elements that will characterize its entire future production.

After a series of volcanic eruptions the small island of Surtsey forms off the coast of Iceland. The Leopard directed by Luchino Visconti wins the Golden Palm as the best film at the 16th Cannes Festival.

1969

At Bethel, in New York State, the Woodstock concert is held. It is the most important collective event in the history of rock 'n' roll. Man lands on the moon. The Beatles hold their last concert on the roof at Apple in London.

The Rond office line is born. Innovation makes its way. The company decides to use polyurethane, the same material used for car steering wheels.

1979

Mother Teresa of Calcutta receives the Nobel Peace Prize. Rome: Nilde Iotti is the first Italian woman to be elected Chairwoman of the Lower House of the Italian Parliament.

The company changes its logo and becomes a joint stock company. It is the year of the reorganization and consolidation of the company's identity.

1993

An intern at Nokia sends the first text message in history from one cell phone to another. Los Angeles: Federico Fellini receives the Honorary Oscar. The government of South Africa grants the right to vote to the black population.

A trailblazing collection is launched: Zeus and the elegance of oak burl. This apparition strikes the attention of all those who love design in time. It will become an international bestseller.

1995

Microsoft launches Windows 95, the first Microsoft operating system for the general public. Faithful to their down-to-earth style, Dire Straits announce their break-up right after the recording of Live at the BBC without making any fuss.

Revolution in Codutti design: the Giotto blue line is launched. Curves and geometrical shapes; waves and earth; contrasts that generate masterpieces in nature as in interior design.

1997

In the chess challenge between IBM's Deep Blue and Garry Kasparov, a computer beats a grand master for the first time. Martina Hingis becomes the youngest number 1 in the history of tennis at the age of 16.The law on privacy is enacted in Italy.

The product range is enriched with the latest newcomers: the Password wall units, a perfect tool for an entire office signed by Codutti.

1998

Apostolic visit of Pope John Paul II t the island of Cuba. It is the first great Catholic gathering in Cuba since the days of the revolution. Larry Page and Sergey Brin, students at the University of Stanford, found Google, the world's most used search engine.

Satin glass, leather and cherry wood: Masterpoint makes its debut. Both sophisticated and contemporary, it is an evergreen regardless of the changing fads.

2000

The operative line that makes the office more efficient: Bluni and Bluspace wall units. Blue in the office is a wave of freshness and design even for products designed for dynamic users.

The Italian National Rugby team makes its debut in the prestigious Six Nations tournament (previously known as the Five Nations). On July 28th the last bill of the Italian Lira is printed. The 20th century and the 2nd millennium AC come to an end.

2002

The unrivalled thoroughbred Varenne runs his last race. In Alexandria, in Egypt, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina is inaugurated to commemorate the legendary library that was destroyed in ancient times.

It is the year of the new Master Reception: Codutti launches an executive reception system to match the Master office collection. The counter with saddle-stitched upholstery meets with success all over the world.

2003

Valentino Rossi signs a 2-year contract with Yamaha becoming the most paid Italian sportsman. La Fenice Theater is inaugurated in Venice with a concert directed by Riccardo Muti after being rebuilt after a disastrous fire in 1996.

Diesis and the Minos presidential line are born. Linear design for semi-executive offices; luxury and fine materials for top-level executive offices in bubinga wood.

2004

Mark Zuckerberg creates a social network for Harvard students: The Facebook. The first images from the Spirit space probe are received after its landing on planet Mars. Queen become the first Western rock group to be officially authorized to sell their records in Iran.

Codutti Spa celebrates its 50th anniversary. It is an unforgettable evening together with authorities, staff and collaborators. A book is published to tell the story of the Three Brothers from Passons, of their ambition to grow, and the passion that led them to become one of the finest examples of Italian manufacturing.

2005

The funeral of Pope John Paul II is held before a crowd of 600,000 people. The ceremony is celebrated by the future pope, Benedict XVI. Expo Aichi 2005 opens in Japan. It is the first world expo of the 21st century. Its theme is: "The wisdom of nature".

Codutti launches Rainbow: it is not a new collection of furniture but an interactive system to imagine, experiment and choose new office solutions. Executive furniture don all the colours of the Codutti palette.

2006

It is the Year of Mozart: the 250th anniversary of the birth of the great Austrian composer is celebrated. The Opening Ceremony of the XX Winter Olympics is held in Turin. Edvard Munch's "The Scream" is found in Oslo after being stolen two years earlier.

Genesis is born: a collection with modern and unique design characterized by genuine sculptures in polished aluminium.

2007

Seven new Wonders of the World are announced: the Great Wall of China, the archaeological site of Petra, the Christ of Rio De Janeiro, the city of Machu Picchu, the Aztec complex of Chichen Itza, the Coliseum in Rome and the Taj Mahal in India. After 50 years the legendary Fiat 500 makes its comeback.

The new logo created for Codutti is: SYNTHESIS, CONTRAST, CHANGE, VISIBILITY. Codutti becomes a brand.

2008

After 70 years of silence the world's most expensive instrument is played again: it is a Guarnieri del Gesù violin of 1741 purchased by the Russian billionaire Maxim Viktorov for $3.9 million at Sotheby' s. The price per barrel of crude oil breaks the $100 barrier for the first time. The iPhone is launched in 22 countries.

Alongside Codutti's new executive products, the Axilon brand makes a name for itself with brand-new operative and wall unit collections.

2009

The transatlantic Oasis of the Seas, the world's largest cruise ship, is launched. Beirut is the World Book Capital for a year. EUR 147.8 million are won: it is the highest prize won in the history of Italian lotteries and the world's largest prize ever won by a single person.

Sergio Codutti draws for the first time the sketch of a leather detail: the Timely and Concerto collections are born.

2010

The Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest skyscraper, is inaugurated in Dubai. Chile: a series of galleries collapse at the San Jose mine. There are no casualties, but 33 miners are trapped for 69 days at a depth of 700 meters. First 24-hour flight of a solar-powered airplane.

Codutti presents its new Catalogue: all its collections in a single book with a fine slipcase made of leather, metal and passion. "Come l'acqua" - Like Water - is the name of the book by Sergio and Laura Codutti: photos and fiction flow softly and impalpably in this story just like water.

2011

It is the 150th anniversary of Italian Unification. William, the Prince of Wales, marries Kate Middleton. The world's most expensive book on golf is published in just 10 copies: it is printed on artisanal paper with fine leather binding. It is sold at $48,000.

Signum makes its debut: it is software to organize space while leaving right time for creativity. The Creative Lab presents for the first the Codutti SoundOffice project in Milan.

Our history

It all starts with three brothers: Arturo, Luciano and Maggiorino Codutti. The year is 1954 and they change their metalworking shop into a company. It is a small company and they know it. They have no idea of how much it will grow.

The Sixties bring prosperity to Italy. There is a sense of lightheartedness in the air. Where are the three brothers now? You'll never believe it...! They are building the furnishings for two Italian transatlantic cruise ships. The Raffaello and Michelangelo are making the transoceanic dreams of many fellow Italians come true. Dreams as bright as the metal of the three brothers from Friuli.

This is just the beginning: in the Seventies Codutti becomes a joint stock company and changes its core business from furnishing for commercial businesses to office furnishing. The quality materials - fine metals, woods and leather - create complete ranges of top-level executive collections.

Codutti starts developing a taste for growth: alongside its historical production site in Passons, it opens a new one in Martignacco. The company becomes a Group and establishes Axilon, a brand dedicated to operational and partition wall systems.

And here we are today… Our journey is continuing along the route towards international markets. Our turnover from exports exceeds the turnover from the Italian market and this makes Codutti something more than just an office furniture company. It becomes a brand.
